The student needs guidance and hand holding up to 10th standard. Do not judge the student based on his marks. The effort should be to guide him become an enthusiastic and active kid.
Most of the time the parent child interaction centre around his academic performance alone. Get 1st in class, I shall do this for you. Get 100% in math, you shall get this gift etc. Instead, ensure that he participates enthusiastically in school activities. Encourage him to participate, I repeat, participate and put no pressure on him to win. Similarly, let him understand the concepts rather than doing / studying routinely. For eg, if you calculate 10*3/3 on a calculator it shows 10 but if you calculate 10/3*3 it shows 9.999 . That is because calculator does that routinely and has no brain to understand that in both cases the answer should be exactly the same where as the child should be able to appreciate the difference.
