The MOST important lesson that parents need to learn is that Education and Studies are NOT synonymous. While education can lead to success, the same is not true about studies. Education is all about knowing, learning, understanding. Studying is about marks, performance in tests, outperforming other students in their batch etc.

The onus is on the parent to make the child understand that marks are NOT the yardstick to measure knowledge. Learning about a particular topic is not confined to only what the text book has to offer. Let's say, the lesson on Balance Sheet is taught in school / college. Studies involves learning how to draw a balance sheet, how to tally the same, how to classify the accounts etc. Education involves, apart from learning about drawing up and tallying the balance sheet, collecting and assimilating the balance sheets of various companies, how the same are presented, the unique features of those balance sheets etc.
