The idea and effort is to make the child slowly realise the importance of Success. The MOST important aspect is that comparisions and chiding are a strict NO NO. This is the critical aspect which needs utmost patience, perseverance and time  from the parent.

Understanding the concept is much more important than remembering the lesson. IF and only IF the involvement of parents is whole hearted and absolute like for eg. taking the child to Golconda fort or Nagarjuna sagar Dam while teaching those lessons the child would only construe parent's involvement as interference. If it is made a fun event the child would look forward to the session.

This is applicable till the child is in the 6th or 7th standard.

Putting pressure on your child to perform well academically will most certainly be counter productive. They will abhor studies, become stubborn and often rebellious.

It is absolutely essential to give quality time to the child, not just to check their marks, home work or tuitions schedule but more to interact as a friend. This is absolutely essential. IF the topic of academics alone takes precedence over all other topics, the child will start avoiding the parent.

It is important that the child be told the stories of famous people, their achievements and success. Let the child know the importance of success. Don't believe or assume that topping the class or winning a game alone is success. The will to do well is success.

well.  How to be a good student has two perspectives.
When a parent wants the child to be a good student and the second when the student himself wants to do well academically.

The FIRST aspect is a science by itself. It revolves around what is expected of the parents, their approach, the methodology they need to adopt, the child psychology, the student environment, the home atmosphere et al. There are some set principles that the parents need to follow to ensure a child's academic success. When I say child, I don't mean a kid. The parent's guidance is needed till the student is around 15 years of age. say, till his 10th standard.

The second perspective is addressing the students who are doing just about average academically but seek techniques to improve because they WANT to do well and seek guidance on that aspect.

I shall address both these issues simultaneously, one point at a time, every day from tomorrow.

Entrepreneurship is something every student and every fresh graduate MUST know about. It is a fascinating art and one should have a complete grasp of the the pre requisite steps that one must take before venturing into this arena.

I intend sharing my thoughts and experiences over a period of sessions, as we move along.
