Putting pressure on your child to perform well academically will most certainly be counter productive. They will abhor studies, become stubborn and often rebellious.

It is absolutely essential to give quality time to the child, not just to check their marks, home work or tuitions schedule but more to interact as a friend. This is absolutely essential. IF the topic of academics alone takes precedence over all other topics, the child will start avoiding the parent.

It is important that the child be told the stories of famous people, their achievements and success. Let the child know the importance of success. Don't believe or assume that topping the class or winning a game alone is success. The will to do well is success.
